Arduum - The Goods!

Hot on the heels of the Seymour Smackdown, Arduum takes place on the 19th and 20th of June, 2010.

Deep in the woods of the District of Mission, in the Mission Rod and Gun Clubs backyard, lies the trail. Steep and technical are words normally used to describe the trail as it falls down the side of Red Mountain.

Here is the information that you are going to need to race!

Arduum Race Location and getting there:

Directions to the bottom of the Race Course click here!

Parking Notifications:

There is limited parking at the base of the course and at the Mill Pond. There is to be no parking along the entrance road to the Mission Rod and Gun Club, or at the Mission Rod and Gun Club itself.
We have given the Club permission to tow any vehicle that is parked there. Please abide by these rules, no one should have to go and get their vehicle out of the impound lot after racing.

Camping:

Unoffically there is a nice grass lot near the Mill Pond. In the past people have tended to group there. Please clean up after yourself and remember that there is a road close by so lock your items up.

Shuttles:

Shuttles this year will be 4 Mini Buses and 4 Cube Vans. They will leave from the parking lot at the Mission Rod and Gun Club. 15-20 riders will be able to fit in each bus and with the smaller vehicles they will be easier to navigate on the road. We all know how smooth that road is! These are the only vehicles that are allowed anywhere near the parking lot. Any unauthorized vehicles will be shot! (Am I really kidding?)

Registration:

Registration will take place at the Pinkbike Trailer at the base of the race course. Make sure you are super nice to the lovely ladies there, or they may just cancel your registration. You will be getting a Racer Package with vaulable information, we suggest that you read it.

Food:

There will be a BBQ provided at a small cost to participants from 5pm-7pm on Saturday June 19th, 2010. All proceeds from the event will go toward the Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association.
So the deal is this: $3 a burger with a pop/water for FVMBA members and $5 for non members. There will be memberships being sold at the same time for $20. With membership purchase the burger is included. There will be two BBQ’s rolling so bring your hunger!

SRAM/Freelap Challenge:

The last hour of practice Saturday the "FreeLap Challenge" is returning. We should have some watches onsite for sale at a discounted rate and we are also selling the watches and the wands through the webpage. Be sure to grab one and test your speed the night before the race.
We have partnered with SRAM and through the websites will be posting the fastest time from the FreeLap Challenge on Saturday night. It is your turn to then send your best guess as to what the fastest time on race day will be. Send your answers to dan@nsmb.com. The first person to guess the right time wins a stellar prize from RockShox!

Cycle Component Network SPEED TRAP!

There is a relatively straight section of trail coming into the new hip jump at the lower 1/4 of the course. There you will find the CCN SPEED TRAP! That is right, an honest to goodness Police certified radar gun complete with digital display. You will be able to see first hand just how fast, or slow you were going. Don't worry though, Rocky Mountain Fro-Rider Brett Tippie will be in the "living room" to heckle you if you didn't get to see it.

DUNBAR Cycles 16" BMX

Back again for 2010 is the Dunbar Cycles 16" BMX Challenge. A new track will be constructed to challenge even the best. Try your luck from 7pm - 9pm Saturday June 19th, 2010. Helmets are mandatory for this even. Knee/shin pads are recommended.

These events would not happen with the support of these fine people:

Arduum News.....

Arduum 2010 - Bigger and Badder than all the years previous.

Mark your calenders folks for June 19th and 20th, the BC Cup to beat all BC Cup races in technical fun.

Some notable improvements with the help of the Course Builder has resulted in a less consequental track, which means more fun for all the riders. Case pads and rollable jumps have been installed along with a healthy does of BERMS! Back for 2010 will be the toilet bowl, the Raceface Rockdrop and the new spicy jump replacing the log gap 3/4 of the way to the bottom.

Shuttles will be provided all day on Saturday and Sunday for the race. We are trying a modified bus/truck combo that we are positive will eliminate many of the issues with the shuttle lag. Unfortunately our request from Mission to install a chairlift was rejected.

Special guest MC for the event to be announced soon, along with an online contest from SRAM, and a return of the Dunbar Cycles 16" MX Pit Racing event the Saturday night. In addition there will be a speed trap compliments of Cycle Component Network, just so you can brag to all your friends how fast you were going.

Sponsors for 2010 include Dunbar Cycles, Pinkbike.com, Raceface, Transition Bikes, Scion Canada, Sombrio, SRAM, Helly Hansen, Freelap, Redbull, NSMB, Trident Sports will be providing tech support and The Bryson Racing Clan has stepped in with some great swag.

Special thanks goes out to the Greg and Denise, Ewan F, the District of Mission and Cycling BC, without the help and support of these people, this event would not be possible.

Check the website www.arduum.ca for all the details about the event, sponsors, registration and location of the event.

Some Race Details

Pit Area

Located at the base of the race course along the road will be the "Pit Area". It is here where all the racing teams can set up their tents. We don't own the land and there are no permits so it is free oh charge, feel free to fire us an email and will make sure that you will have a place. We ask if you have a trailer and such, that you get there early on Sat so that it is easier to move around.

Dunbar Cycles 16" Pit Racing

A new course will be built to rip the 16" BMX on in the not so impromtu Pit Race. Helmets are mandatory for this event. Girls and guys can step up and try their luck.

Parking

We have a special arrangement with the District of Mission and the Mission Rod and Gun club with letting us use the access road to get to the top of Red Mountain.

We have given the District and the Rod and Gun Club permission to tow any vehicles that park along the access road to the Gun club from Dewdney Trunk Road. Limited parking will be available at the base of the course, along the right spur of the road. Additional parking is along the road and at the Mill Pond Parking Lot.

Shuttles

The form of shuttles for 2010 will be 4 mini buses and 4 cube vans for the bikes. We have ordered enough blankets to cover each bike with one blanket, to ensure that your rig in no way comes into contact with the adjacent bike.

The smaller buses and trucks are easier to drive on the road, as we all know that it is very difficult and steep.

Practice Runs

It is well known that the race course is one of the more difficult ones, and as a result we are in the works to get as much access as possible. We are offering shuttles all day Sat in addition to time on Sunday morning. We are working with the Mission Rod and Gun Club to get access on the 12th and 13th of June. Once we get the approval we'll let you know.

Weather

The weather in the Lower Mainland this year is odd at best. This weekend, likes to throw wrenches in the best of plans and as such, prepare yourself for any condition.

Volunteers

No even gets even close to getting off the ground without the help of volunteers. We are always looking for volunteers to assist in any way they can. Please don't think that you need to be there all day, half days are appreciated just as much. We all have jobs and families and understand that they require attention as well. Fire us an email and we will get you sorted with a location and a stellar job to do.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to fire me an email at dan@nsmb.com

Tyler Gorz sending it large...

As caught by Dave Mackie. The gap over the log has been replaced with this hip. Riders can roll the take-off, come up short or huck your meat. Many thanks to the trail builder!

Racing Fees/Shuttles

Prices for Racing Arduum 2010.

U15 = $30.00
U17 = $30.00

Pro/Elite = $ 60.00 (including the $10.00 prize purse per Cycling BC standards)

All Others = $50.00

NOTE: Shuttle fee of $10.00 will be applied to all the above prices.

Shuttles for Arduum

Shuttles are a very important part of the entire experience of racing when we don't have any access to a chairlift. (Does anyone have one lying around we could use?)

We are working super hard to get the shuttles system rolling like a well greased set of gears, so that everyone gets adequate laps in on the race course.

More information on that later.

Cheers!

The Race Track...

Well folks, Arduum is Arduum is Arduum.

There is no getting around the fact that the track is steep and technical. In fact, it is probably the steepest of the BC Cup Series.

That being said, there are going to be a few minor changes/tweaks to the course to allow more people to have fun at the race.

More on that later, but until then, above is the course map, the "Big Brother is watching you" sky photograph and the elevation chart.

Enjoy and hope to see you race day.

Dan

The Date is Announced....

Well after several hours pouring over dates for the 2010 installment of Arduum, Cycling BC has finally approved our date for the event.

Arduum will take place on the 20th of June, 2010.

There will be practice shuttles taking place on the Saturday beforehand.

Mark your calenders and see you there.

Cheers!
